All of us experience loss. It may be loss of a job; a loved-one being deployed overseas, a friend or family member transferring into a long-term care setting. If there is any word that summarizes well our pain we feel, it’s the word loss. Dutch Priest, Henri Nouwen, laments, “We’ve lost so much! Sometimes it seems that life is just one long series of losses!” So, how do we cope with our losses? Sometimes it’s easy to hide our head in the sand and act as though something never happened. But that only works for a while. When we name our losses and work them through we can find healing, Jesus offers us hope when he says: “Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.”
